We at Romance Notes mourn the recent passing of friend and colleague, Edson Costa Duarte, whose superb essay we are honored to publish. Edson was a perceptive and sensitive poet, a distinguished scholar, and an inspiration to his students. His work on such great Brazilian writers as Clarice Lispector and Hilda Hilst ranks among the very best. He will be missed.
