Correction

Leviathan wishes to correct an inaccuracy in the June 2019 review of vol. 13 of The Writings of Herman Melville. While it is true that leaf numbers of the Billy Budd manuscript do not appear in the edition’s reading text, the review’s statement that the transcription of the manuscript is “not associated with specific pages in the reading text” is not the case. In fact, bold-face bracketed reading-text page numbers are included within the transcription; and every entry in the list of emendations includes a bracketed manuscript-leaf number. The reviewer regrets the error.
