## Metrical structure and sung rhythm of the Hausa rajaz. Online supplementary materials 1: Metrical analyses

### 1.1 Analysis of basic line types

This Excel file gives the full versions of the computationally implemented tableaux that evaluate all of the candidates in the GEN of Table 2 of the main article (see p. e266).

### 1.2 Poem-by-poem metrical analysis

This ZIP file contains an Excel spreadsheet containing the data for each of the eleven poems analyzed in the article.

This ZIP file contains the Excel analysis spreadsheet with which we carried out our calculations for each of the eleven poems analyzed in the article, giving a complete model of the data for each (see p. e273).

### 1.3 Rigor testing

This Excel file gives the full details for the application of the likelihood ratio test to all of the constraints in the analysis (see p. e278).

This Excel file demonstrates a variety of logically possible outcomes that cannot be derived with the constraint set.

This PDF file is a scan of the 140-line sample of Hausa prose copied and annotated from Spoken Hausa, by J. Ronayne Cowan and Russell G. Schuh (Ithaca, NY: Spoken Language Services, Inc., 1976). See p. e279 for discussion.

This Excel file demonstrates the outcome when the constraint set is used to derive a corpus of ordinary prose lines. See p. e279 for discussion.

### 1.4 Closure as reflecting markedness or entropy

This Excel file is an analysis of how the rajaz data relate to the principle of closure in metrics (see n. 18 on p. e271).

### 1.5 Distribution of phonological breaks

This Excel file is a compilation of phonological breaks for a subset of the poems studied in the article (see p. e258).

### 1.6 Graph for second metron

This Excel file contains an analysis and graph for the second metron which is analogous to that given for the first metron in the main article (see p. e269). As noted in the article, metron 2 shows a greater degree of poem-to-poem idiosyncrasy than metron 1, so this graph forms a tangle of lines, not the clean pattern seen in Fig. 2.
