Marla Carlson’s Affect, Animals, and Autists presents a comprehensive survey of affective responses to performances that involve the simulated, symbolic, and actual presence of animals and people on the autism spectrum in order to critique the processes that reaffirm or trouble the homogenized boundaries of the “normate” human.
