the huntington library quarterly is pleased to announce that Susan Green, editor emerita, was honored with the 2018 Distinguished Editor Award by the Council of Editors of Learned Journals. The vice president of CELJ, John Duvall of Purdue University, presented the award at the Modern Language Association's annual conference in Chicago on January 5, 2019. His citation read, in part, "Two aspects of Susan Green's work stand out: first, the meticulous attention she devoted to the editorial process … and second, the work she did to elevate the profile of Huntington Library Quarterly through the crafting of topics for special issues and the creation of partnerships with university presses. Her accomplishments exhibit the many tasks at which editors of scholarly journals must excel, ranging from marketing to minute scrutiny of sentences, from networking with scholars to fostering intellectual creativity."

Green led the journal from 1993 to 2016. Her many achievements include the tightening of the period focus of the journal, the transformation of its physical presence with an emphasis on the quality of materials and design, the expansion and cultivation of its editorial board, the modeling and mentoring of editorial excellence among its staff, the management of a transition to digital formats, and the fostering of highly influential special issues. She continues to guide young editors as an instructor in the University of Southern California's Literary Editing and Publishing program. We congratulate her on the occasion of this well-deserved recognition.
