ABSTRACT:
Arid land peperomia (Peperomia blanda (Jacq.) Kunth var. floribunda (Miq.) H. Huber [Piperaceae]) was vegetatively propagated using leaf cuttings treated with or without 1000 ppm indole-3-butyric acid. Results after 1 mo indicated no signifi-cant benefit of rooting hormone treatment. High mean percent rooting (> 80%) was observed in both treatments, with each leaf cutting having a mean of 2 shoot initials and mean longest root length of 2.2 cm (0.87 in). Whole leaf cuttings provide a feasible vegetative propagation material for arid land peperomia. Plantlets can be generated from cuttings in approximately 118 d.
