L'immagine del "ritardato piacer" presente in Adone VIII, 69 ha promosso nel commento di Pozzi una ricerca delle fonti dalla quale non è possibile stabilire se si tratta di un topos o di una fonte. La sua proposta è approssimativa, e questo saggio propone un'altra fonte meno approssimativa. Tale incertezza porta a considerare le nozioni di topos e di fonte così importanti per la filologia, e a volte molto imprecise e problematiche, soprattutto quando si tratta di "coincidenze" che noi però rifiutiamo per riportare ad origini letterarie tutto ciò che è letteratura. Questo è specialmente vero per autori "iperletterati" come Petrarca e Marino.
