Abstract

Analysis of Buddhist meditation experts’ skills grounds a theory of mental freedom, stronger than libertarianism, that includes freedoms of the will, emotion, attention, perception, and all voluntary phenomena, and is compatible with various Western and Buddhist conceptions of causation and the self, but poses challenges for all forms of free will skepticism.
