Abstract:
The encounter of people from across the Indian Ocean was spurred by the growth of trade leading to colonisation. Enslaved Africans fell victim to the slave trade but held onto their cultural memories and religious practices. I theorise on the religious and spiritual aspects of the musical practices of an Afro–Sri Lankan community.
