Translating Ulysses into any given language has attracted public attention ever since the book was first published almost one hundred years ago due to the question of translatability. Today, in the first quarter of the twenty-first century, its translation into Basque draws considerable attention, since many people still consider this language as backwards and inadequate to convey the meaning of a text of such complexity as Ulysses. In this essay, Xabier Olarra talks at length about all the problems inherent in facing such a challenge.
