Explaining the Electoral Success and Failure of Neoliberal Reformers in Latin America: 1980–2000

Abstracts:

Analyzing elections in Latin America, this paper shows that political variables drive voter decisions to either reject or support neoliberal reformers. This paper analyzes aggregate election outcomes from 1980–2000 in 13 Latin American countries and 53 elections.
