Abstract

Abstract:

During the latter part of Ernesto Cardenal’s literary career, his poetry has been widely recognized to be integrated with many current developments covering a vast range of diverse disciplines such as astrophysics, quantum mechanics, mysticism, geometry and music. As the Nicaraguan poet probes into the nature of each of these fields, he reveals that they are fundamentally based on vibratory patterns of energy that permeate everything. Cardenal suggests that all of physical reality – everything we perceive in space and time – even our consciousness, is interconnected and participates in a sort of cosmic dance. As a consequence of this revelation, the poet concludes that our salvation depends on embracing this underlying solidarity, while rejecting the persistent fragmentary worldview that has been inherited from influential thinkers like Descartes and Newton.
