Abstract:
In The Pathos of Distance: Affects of the Moderns, Jean-Michel Rabaté demonstrates that modernist and post-modern philosophy, psychoanalysis, art, and literature share a commitment to ethical values based on what Nietzsche calls a pathos of distance. The demonstration effects a panoramic re-orientation of modernism and its legacy.
