Abstract

Abstract:

This essay examines the concept of the gaze and its relation to the political. Through the analysis of the filial relation between father and son in Emili Teixidor's novel and the film of Agustí Villaronga, Pa negre (2003 and 2010, respectively), the essay studies the question of heritage and legacy in the context of the inoperativity of the contemporary politics of memory. The essay grounds its critical perspective in the thought of cultural theorists in regard to aesthetics, the politics of the gaze, and the symptom.
