Revolution Told Four Ways

Following the recent rise in publications regarding the socialist era in China, this review looks at four works of different disciplines that take the revolution as inspiration or frame, in order to consider and compare their analyses of the narrative technologies by which this landmark event transformed Chinese society and its cultural products. Their internal dynamics continue to inform the construction of self-narratives, including the national history of the collective self, today.
