Unbeknownst to the furless, two-legged inhabitants of Earth, the Robot Federation and the Great Feline Empire are at war throughout the galaxy. As rumor of the invention of an all-powerful singularity chip spreads, respective teams of robots and cats race to Earth to retrieve it. Meanwhile, on earth, twin humans Min and Max live in a household of sentient smart appliances, and Min seeks to compete in robot-building while Max focuses on his two new stray kittens, clueless about the battle that rages and its effect on their household. Much of this first outing of a planned sci-fi series reads like a protracted GIF of a kitten fighting a Roomba—cute but limited—and the superficial execution makes the setup more contrived than conmpelling. Nonethelesss, the uncomplicated humor of anal-retentive robots resenting their scatterbrained feline counterparts is endearing and it effectively parallels the brother-sister dynamic, so the novel may offer some satisfaction in its mix of tech and kitties, STEM and heart.
