Abstract:

This article examines the chuanju (Sichuan opera) transformation of Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle as Huilan ji (The Chalk Circle, 2011), characterized by the tradition and reinvention of conventionalized techniques to address current social problems of China which echoes Brecht's original concerns.
