Abstract

Abstract:

The authors have engaged in reflexive inquiry about the lexical creation alongside or the neology creation of the Mapuche language and its transposition within the realm of teaching/learning of this indigenous language in an urban context. The present use of Mapudungun in diverse contemporary environments but, most of all, its return to the academic world via courses and assignments in diverse contexts, has generated the creation of neologisms which necessitate a transformation of the participants in this process. One challenge is not only in relation to the lexical resources but also at a sociolinguistic level. In actuality, there are no completed studies about neologisms generated in the context of teaching and learning the Mapuche language. The existence of new spaces, like those of the university classrooms in urban contexts and in the native language learners of the urban slums invite us to examine the ways of knowing and learning the Mapuche language in metalinguistic and intergenerational proximity.
