Birth and Finitude: A Paradigm for the Resurrection?

The resurrection stands at the heart of Christian faith, but theologians often fail to connect it to human experience in a way that has meaning for today. This article looks at our "transformation" in the general resurrection mentioned by Paul in 1 Corinthians. Building on the theme of "rebirth" introduced in Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus, this essay treats resurrection as neither restoration nor completion, but as metamorphosis—specifically, the metamorphosis of human finitude in Christ. The essay moves from a précis on finitude to a phenomenology of the resurrection adequate to the demands of the present age.
