I would like to submit a complaint regarding X Hospital Unit A. I have been illegally committed and illegally hospitalized there since 1995. They have been luring me back there once to three times a year. I am and have been in regular outpatient treatment with an outreach worker, a case manager, a medication doctor and a therapist since 1990. I have been a consumer of a community service since 1995.

While an inpatient on Unit A, I was constantly placed on an illegal room plan where I could not come out of my room even for meals. I was not allowed to use the telephone to call my attorney, my medication doctor, my therapist, my case manager or my outreach worker or any social or business-related contacts. I had to request an attorney to represent me who came to see me and gave me my human rights back. If it was not for the attorney, I would have been isolated and confined to my room without music, television, or reading material. I also was not allowed to attend any therapeutic groups while on the illegal room plan. I was only allowed to leave the room supervised to bathe or shower.

During each hospital stay, these same illegalities were repeated only with me. All of the other patients had their human rights. I was the only human whose human rights were violated.

According to the ADA of 1990, it is illegal to commit a patient unless he/she is a danger to him/herself or to others or one who has an untreated [End Page 8] drug or alcohol addiction. It is inhumane to deny any human being his/her right to social interaction, social activities, telephone usage, reading materials, showering or bathing, television, daily snacks from the common room or only allowing patients to eat with a spoon in solitary confinement in his/her room all alone for months or more.

Dr. Y tried to illegally commit me because I did not wish to have my blood pressure taken 15 times a day because they strangled me with the cuff and my hands were bluish purple and numb all day. I had to request supervised telephone usage to contact the Disability Law center to receive my human rights.

The other psychiatrists and the unit director who regularly treated me stay after stay refused to communicate with, or read any of the 95 faxes, emails, and phone calls from my outpatient medical doctors, etc. regarding allergies to medications and muscle relaxants, physical abuse by the Z City Police Department or my diabetes or asthmatic medications.

All of the nurses discriminate and write illegalities in each consumer’s chart, so when the social worker returns the following morning, she has to figure out who is lying—the patient or the nurses. After several hours of observation, the social worker realizes that the nurses were lying and that the patient was telling the truth. Feel free to obtain my records and see for yourself.

They also do not have proper bathing materials or sanitary bathing units. The toothbrushes are not real and cause your gums to recede. The toothpaste does not have fluoride and they give you a tube that lasts only for one day. They do not have deodorant or powder or mouthwash.

They do not have enough clothing or shoes for their patients, as some patients are taken in without clothing or shoes or underwear on.

They mop the floors in the middle of the day and everyone slips and falls and breaks an ankle, a shoulder or a neck or back just going from room to room.

They do not allow outdoor walks unless you contact your attorney. They do not allow outdoor cigarette breaks.

They commit you if you are too smart or if you know about the ADA or if they just do not like you as a person. This, of course, is illegal and because of the falsities that the nurses and psychiatrists and therapists say about their patients, when the judge reads the patient’s chart, he commits the patient without giving the patient a lawyer or...
