Abstract:
This poem's speaker is haunted by a past love affair with a man she has a complicated history with. She wishes to perform a ritual to rid herself of this proverbial ghost and to be free of the memory of this man that she still loves, as he was recently engaged to someone else. In the poem's ending, she is not free, and another ghost always arrives.
