Abstract:
In the twenty-first century, cyberwar has become more prevalent than physical war, with cyberattacks and cyberconflicts now a regular part of the Internet. Given the hacking by adversarial states, criminal groups, and malicious individuals, new strategies are needed to manage this global problem. This article introduces and explores the new concept of cyberpeacekeeping. Cyberpeacekeepers, possibly working for the United Nations or mandated by it, could patrol and act in cyberspace just as current UN peacekeepers patrol and act in the world's conflict zones.
