Abstract:
This essay examines how Hollywood from 1946 to 1949 used the contrasting styles of jazz and classical music—often via foregrounded onscreen musical performances—as a key means for articulating both the nation’s postwar adjustment difficulties and the possibility of moving forward after the war.
