Abstract

Abstract:

Michel Abensour Stirling, an ageing expat, visits the school of a young girl named Aya, in this story by Moroccan novelist Mhani Alaoui. Stirling, alone after the abandonment of his father and the death of his mother, had chased Aya away from the walls of his manor with the assistance of his German shepherd, and in that moment saw something in her eyes that reminded him of himself. A disquieting exploration of colonialism and expatriotism.
