In an essay translated from French to English by Jay Milton, Smith College professor Geneviève Piron uses a journey to the Siberian city of Yakutsk as a method to discuss the current state of the city. She weaves history, culture, and ecology together with narrative as she, with a group and guide, moves from the airport into the center of Yakutsk. Ultimately, the essay is an examination of the lost and found aspects of a culture on a city heavily affected by the birth and end of the Soviet Union.
