Abstract:
Although versions may vary, "A Mighty Fortress" is so well-known that the uncertainties about its origins may be surprising. Whatever its original context in Luther's career, the long history of prominent and public usage is here documented by Andreas Loewe and Katherine Firth. Loewe (Dean of St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral Melbourne) and Firth (Lecturer in Research Education and Development at La Trobe University Melbourne) have also co-authored a theological commentary on Bach's St. John Passion (Brill, 2014).
