Photographer David Burckhalter is renowned for his candid photographs of people living in northern Mexico, especially the Seris (Comcáac). His books include The Seris; La Vida Norteña: Photographs of Sonora, Mexico; Among Turtle Hunters & Basket Makers: Adventures with the Seri Indians; and Baja California Missions: In the Footsteps of the Padres. Currently he is working on a magnum opus, a book of photographs with a personal narrative: a lifetime documenting the Comcáac, their homeland, and nomadic traditions.
