Abstract:
In a retelling of Shakespeare's "The Tempest," set in a midwestern amusement park, a young girl struggles to assert independence from her father, a stage magician with a haunted past. She forms an unlikely alliance with her father's assistant and finds comfort in the enchanted affections of her father's trained monkey. In a story of violence and love, we see a father's attempt to protect his child from the dangers of the world and a daughter's attempt to navigate the troubled waters of her family's past. Also: roller coasters.
