In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

  • Editors' Note

This issue of Early American Literature will be the last to benefit from the contributions of editorial assistant Jay David Miller, a PhD student in the English Department at the University of Notre Dame, and review editorial assistant Abby Schroering, now enrolled as a doctoral student in Columbia University's Program in Theatre. Among the many ways that Jay contributed to the journal's smooth functioning, most notable is his important work fact checking articles, which is essential to maintaining the high quality of the scholarship that appears in EAL. Abby's contributions to the journal have been immeasurable, but one way to begin to appreciate them is simply to look at how the review section has grown since she began working with EAL in the spring of 2016. We wish this prizewinning University of Kentucky English major all the best as she embarks on a brilliant career.

This issue also displays the talents of our new editorial assistants, Anton Povzner and John P. Larson. Born in Ukraine, Anton did his undergraduate and master's degrees in English at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and is currently in the second year of the PhD program at Notre Dame. His is primarily interested in constructions of selfhood in early American literature. John is a senior studying English at the University of Kentucky. He is a fellow in the Gaines Center for the Humanities, where he is completing a satirical social novel for his senior thesis. After graduation, he plans to pursue a PhD in medieval literature and material culture and a career in either teaching, writing, or publishing. Welcome, Anton and John! [End Page 307]
