While the study of the seven sacraments and the use of associated sacramentals remain within the bounds of the theological disciplines, their practice and reception in the U.S. context provides a rich area for study by historians. We are grateful for these contributions that help map the history of prayer, sacraments, and sacramentals. Michael S. Carter is associate professor of history at the University of Dayton. Sarah K.
