The Southern Historical Association will be holding it's next annual meeting in Atlanta. Founded in 1934, the Southern Historical Association encourages the study of history in the South, 'with emphasis on the history of the South. The Association publishes The Journal o(Southern History, a quarterly circulated to more than 4,500 members and libraries in the United States and foreign countries. Sessions at the annual meeting will be devoted to the fields of American, European, Latin America, and public history bringing together the most recent scholarship by historians in the South and historians of the South. The fellowship and grants program is open to all scholars working on Jefferson or Jefferson-related projects. Preference is given to three classes of candidates: doctoral students working on a dissertation; scholars preparing a manuscript for publication; international scholars. Fellowships are awarded for one-month's residency at the Center. The award for U.S. and Canadian fellows is $1,500 plus reimbursement for round-trip airfare; the award for international fellows is $2,00 plus reimbursement for round-trip airfare. Travel grants are available on a limited basis for scholars and teachers wishing to make short-term visits to Monttcello to pursue research or education projects. The application procedure is the same as for fellowships.
