  • Editor’s Note
  • Nora Gilbert

This issue marks the official transition of editorial duties from Stephanie Hawkins to myself, and I wanted to take this occasion to praise and thank Stephanie for all she has done during her four-year tenure at the helm. Under her creative and thoughtful direction, the journal entered into an exciting new partnership with Johns Hopkins University Press, increased and vastly improved its online presence, was given a design overhaul and new look, updated and expanded its editorial board, and was brought into the twenty-first century in terms of its operations and submissions practices. On a personal note, I am extremely grateful for all the guidance and support Stephanie has given me over the years as I have progressed from the journal’s book review editor to associate editor to my new role as editor-in-chief. I am equally grateful, too, that I will be entering into this new role with the journal’s inimitable managing editor of the past five years, Timothy Boswell, by my side. As we approach Studies in the Novel’s fiftieth (!) anniversary in 2019, I am looking forward with great pleasure to taking up the task of sustaining and augmenting the journal’s reputation as one of the longest-standing but most innovative platforms of its kind.
