Abstract

Abstract:

Sister Helene O'Connor, O.P. (1909–1992), an active proponent of the Liturgical Movement, lived and worked as an artist and educator primarily in the rural Midwest. This environment created a geographic space for the Liturgical Movement and the arts to flourish in ways different from most urban settings. As an Adrian Dominican sister, and as a visual artist within a religious congregation, her zeal for asserting art as an important apostolate within the Catholic Church is noted in the ways she navigated obligations and opportunities to pursue her vocation.
