Abstract:

The personal recollections and history around the creation of one of the earliest Chicano studies journals, De Colores, founded in Albuquerque in 1973, describing collective visions emerging after the Civil Rights era, inspiring leaders such as César Chávez, and the involvement of community organizers, the publishing collective, and those who took on new academic roles. Reflections include prominent events, an early treatise, ensuing editorial purposes and design, and the goals of the community of scholars involved.
