We Belong To This Land: A View of “Cultural Difference”

This paper is an exploration of issues of identity, miscegenation and cultural definition as they relate to the definition and study of First Nations literatures. The author problematizes and challenges stereotypes and asserts the multi-dimensional space of Aboriginal peoples. The primary cultural difference between Aboriginal peoples and Canadians is the understanding and interpretation of the relationship each group has with the land.

Cette étude explore les questions d’identité, de métissage et des définitions culturelles à la lumière des études et définitions des littératures autochtones. L’auteure interroge les stéréotypes tout en revendiquant un espace multi-dimensionnel pour les peuples antochtones, La différence culturelle fondamentale entre peuples autochtones et Canadien/nes est basée sur I’ importance et l’interprétation du rapport à la terre élaborées par chacun de ces groupes.
