Mouvements sociaux et culture: Le mouvement féministe au Québec

Après une courte présentation théorique mettant l’accent sur les dimensions culturelles des mouvements sociaux, cet article évoque le contexte d’émergence du féminisme québécois des années 1960, ses lieux diversifiés d’enracinement et ses principaux enjeux. Pour répondre aux interrogations concernant les mécanismes de concertation au sein d’un mouvement rassemblant des groupes nombreux et hétérogènes, une section examine le rôle de l’État dans la structuration du mouvement; une autre est consacrée aux productions culturelles associées au féminisme, contribuant à la reconstruction des identités de genre et favorisant une identification symbolique au mouvement.

After a brief theoretical overview of social movements emphasizing their cultural dimensions, this article describes the emergence of the women’s movement in the Quebec society of the sixties, examines its embeddedness in a diversity of social milieux and identifies its main issues. In order to analyse the mechanisms serving to coalesce a large number of diversified groups into one movement, the first section examines the role of the State in structuring the movement. The second section considers the contributions of cultural productions to the reconstruction of gender identities, facilitating symbolic identification with the movement.
