The Conservation and Use of Ancient Theatres in Modern Greece-Current Issues Relating to the Epidauros Theatre

The author traces the development of modem stagings of performances in ancient sites. He shows that though in certain cases, the use of the sites has facilitated the retrieval of their original cultural dimensions, in others bad management and conflicting interests have had a negative impact on the sites. He discusses the example of the Epidauros theatre, and the initiatives undertaken to protect it.
