We are pleased to present this special themed issue of Transportation Journal, entitled "Developing Logistics and Transportation Theory through Systematic Literature Reviews." After announcing the call for papers for this special issue last summer, we received an overwhelming number of submissions. We are very pleased that this themed issue received much attention from many transportation, logistics, and supply-chain scholars. The number of accepted papers resulted in an editorial decision to publish the papers in two issues instead of one. In this (summer) issue we publish three papers, along with a standard research article that provides an excellent context for the changes that have occurred in transportation and logistics academic research over the past nine years. The fall issue will contain the remaining papers that were accepted for the special themed issue. We hope that you will enjoy reading these thought-provoking articles.

The overwhelming success of this special issue provides a great segue to a reminder that the deadline is fast approaching for the summer 2018 special themed issue on global shipping and ports. Events over the past months reinforce the timeliness of and need for an in-depth examination of this important component of global supply chains. We are pleased to have Dr. Douglas Hales and Dr. Jasmine Siu Lee Lam serve as guest editors for this special themed issue. Detailed information regarding the call for papers follows this introduction. We encourage you to submit your research for this special issue.

The publication of this issue marks the end of Vincent Robles' term as Assistant Editor for the journal. In addition to being a valuable member of the editorial team, Vince has been working on his PhD at Iowa State University. Beginning in the fall, he will be an assistant professor of technical communication at the University of North Texas. Our best wishes to Vince as he begins this next chapter in his academic career. Vince, we thank you for your help in advancing the quality of the journal.

Respectfully,

Yoshi Suzuki and Mary Holcomb, Co-Editors
