Reviews 283 though I had a little trouble with the general tendency of the women in the story to be either smooth skinned, sexy and “charmingly out of breath”or gray, squat and asexual, yet “with a bosom full enough to nurture a whole regiment.” The female protagonist’s, Syd’s, tale of sexy androgyny and repression could be interesting material for psychoanalysis. Though there was a bit too much pulp for my taste and the story ofJake is a little heavy on descriptions of his “hardened staff,” all in all, Ms.Jensen spins a strong yarn, albeit one that could benefit from some careful editing.
