This essay proposes to contribute to previous studies of James's portrayal of places by developing our comprehension of his introduction, description, and connotation of spatial and spatiotemporal references. Our methodology is based on narratological studies, especially temporal orders, and stylistic analyses, focusing particularly on spatial references. Anchoring its arguments in The Wings of the Dove, this paper thus intends to provide a possible interpretation of James's methods of capturing the internal reality of characters and apprehending artistically the human experience through the depiction of space.
