Boards of Directors: Who Needs Them?

The statutory requirement for an arts organization to be governed by a group of people who are not required to be artists is an archaic and cumbersome construct that requires redress. This article argues that a new form of governance is required so that practicing theatre artists can create the kind of organization that suits the specific needs of their artistic practices.
