ISMIR 2017

The 18th International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR) will take place 23–28 October 2017 in Suzhou, China. ISMIR 2017 is organized by the National University of Singapore and the National University of Singapore Suzhou Research Institute. As stated by the organizers, musical information retrieval (MIR) blends the disciplines of signal processing, machine learning, psychology, musicology, electrical engineering, computer science, and more. ISMIR 2017 aims to bring together researchers, engineers, educators, and other professionals from these diverse fields to exchange ideas, share results, gain new perspectives, and foster new developments in MIR. The conference's scientific program will include presentations of peer-reviewed research papers in oral and poster formats in addition to tutorials and invited talks. Papers will cover topics such as MIR fundamentals; audio feature extraction; estimation of semantic metadata; methods for manipulating, analyzing, and processing musical sequences; MIR applications; and methodological and social concerns. ISMIR 2017 will include a late-breaking demo session for exploring and discussing interesting, nascent developments, and an "unconference" to foster informal discussion and stimulate future collaborations. The conference will also have a musical program encompassing works from the Western classical tradition, the traditional music of the Suzhou region, and music incorporating MIR methods.

DAFx17

The 20th International Conference on Digital Audio Effects (DAFx17) will be held 5–9 September 2017 at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, UK. DAFx17 is organized by the University of Edinburgh Acoustics and Audio Group, a university-wide research group encompassing the Edinburgh College of Art, the School of Engineering, and the School of Physics and Astronomy. Held annually, the conference connects those working in research on digital audio processing, sound art, acoustics, and related fields. DAFx17 will feature oral and poster presentations of peer-reviewed papers, keynote addresses, tutorials, demonstrations, and social events. Papers presented at the conference will cover the general areas of audio capture and analysis; representation, transformation, and modeling; transmission and resynthesis; effects and manipulation; perception, psychoacoustics, and evaluation; analysis, coding, and synthesis of spatial sound; source separation; sound synthesis, composition, and sonification; and hardware and software design. Special attention will be devoted to the topics of three-dimensional audio techniques, spatial audio, physical modeling, and virtual analog models.

CUBE Fest 2017

CUBE Fest 2017 will take place 3–6 August 2017 at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. Hosted by the Virginia Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT), CUBE Fest 2017 will present four days of music and sound art designed for the Cube, Virginia Tech's four-story, 128-audio-channel multimedia theater. Additional works will be presented in the 24.4-channel Perform Studio—these primarily consisting of sound installations. The organizers have prioritized works with the greatest potential for exploring the multichannel capabilities of the Cube and the Perform Studio. These works will encompass a broad range of electronic musical styles and practices, including mainstream electronic music, electroacoustic music, and a diverse collection of other technology-based sonic arts forms.
