Abstract

This poem is named after the 18th century mathematician and scientist John Playfair’s ͙ Illustrations of the Huttonian Theory of the Earth, which is considered the founding text of modern geology. The poem’s speaker interprets aspects of the geological theory in the present and imagined future.
