Abstract

Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution through natural selection is today’s working tool of professional biologists. Is it something more? I argue that from the first it has functioned as a secular religion, in opposition to the Christian religion of which it is the bastard offspring. To make this case, using literature—fiction and poetry—I run through a number of areas including God, origins, ethics, and sin, showing how Darwinism speaks to these issues.
