This article describes graduate and professional educational experiences that promote contextual knowing, or the ability to critically analyze information to construct an informed perspective. Students described these experiences as opportunities to struggle with ideas and formulate their own opinions, connect their beliefs to their own lives, use their experience in the learning process, engage in learning as equal partners with teachers, and exchange perspectives with diverse peers to develop belief systems.
