Abstract

Abstract:

In 1969, and in the name of development, the government of Pierre Elliott-Trudeau undertook the most extensive land expropriation in the history of the country in order to build the largest airport in the world: Mirabel. The project was a dramatic failure due to different social, political and economic reasons. This article focuses on the development discourse used by the State to promote the project, on private property relations and on the slow political mobilization of owners whose properties were requisitioned.
