The Quixotic Dream of Mark Twain’s Jim

Many scholars have written about similarities between Huckleberry Finn and Don Quixote, but all have done so with the assumption that Tom Sawyer is Twain’s Quixote, and Huck is his Sancho. This article argues that the comparisons between Tom and Quixote are misplaced and superficial, and that it is Twain’s Jim who truly embodies Quixote’s spirit and heart.
