We continue our 2016 sampling of works by artists associated with the Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery in the autumn issue with an atmospheric image created by Ailbhe Barrett. Located on St. John’s Square, the Limerick Printmakers website is http://www.limerickprintmakers.com/Home.html.

Ailbhe Barrett (b. 1978) is a native of Limerick who was home-schooled to the age of eighteen, after which she took up painting full time. Initially interested in historical techniques in oil painting, Barrett later studied printmaking with Limerick Printmakers and at the Graphic Studio Dublin. She has exhibited at both of those venues, as well as at the Hunt Museum, the RHA Annual Exhibition, the Bourne Vincent Gallery at the University of Limerick, and in the 2012 “Art Below” show at the London Underground.

The color, mood, and composition of the untitled print featured on our cover displays several of the trademark qualities of Barrett’s art: a fascination with stillness, a thought-provoking and centered response to the natural world, and a sense of forceful shape that nonetheless seems to be rendered in a moment of coming apart.
