Abstract

In the development of Latin America as a society, or what could be construed to be a civilization, many elements come into play directly or through the sieve of diverse cultural groups as they encounter each other, negotiate the terms of their interactions, and work toward a fusion or integration that becomes hybrid expressions. Through an examination of some of the works that result from these exchanges over the centuries, this article studies how Latin Americans have attempted to coalesce, create, and bring forth new ways of seeing, being, and meaning.
