Lesley Dill

Lesley Dill is a painter, printmaker, sculptor, photographer, and performance artist who explores her interest in language in works of art that frequently use natural materials, including charcoal, horsehair, tea, and rice. The incorporation of language, specifically poetry, provides layers of meaning in her art, which suggest that our sense of self is formed in large part through language and communication. Dill’s art has been further influenced by her travels in India and her interest in Buddhism. She has been the focus of two retrospective exhibitions, which traveled widely, and her work is in many major permanent museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Cleveland Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
